Graphically plan your trade routes, coordinate attacks with your entire fleet, manage the hierarchy or send ships on remote exploration missions. Ships can be ordered with simple clicks and through drag-and-drop operations to set their future path and commands. Once you have more ships and many NPCs working for you as pilots, crew or station managers, the map will be your preferred method of managing it all. The a paragraph in the steam pages description about it: You can hire a pilot and have him fly your spaceship, you'll likely get several ships and pilots and make mining fleets, battle fleets and such as you establish your own little trading empire.

I haven't played it in about a year and since then they've added at least 50 pages worth of patch notes, mostly bug fixes, balance, and content. surprisingly very deep, and the developers keep adding more, and more, and more, content. There is a story that you can choose to engage in or not if you don't, it continues without you, but that's fine, because you've decided to become a smuggler on the other side of the sector anyway, and you're busy eluding the space cops trying to scrape enough money together to pay your crew and repair your ship. You can customize your ship fairly well, and the outcome of the game and the universe depends on you, the captain's, actions. It's all very abstracted out, and if you have good officers, sometimes you get a bonus out of it. The crew-on-crew fights are just events that tick by as you fly from point to point, and you get a positive or negative result based on your officers' stat bonuses. And of course you're still the pilot if you do it all yourself. I think you can have all the consoles open on one screen and manage everything yourself (we combined roles a lot since we usually had fewer people than the game had stations), but most of the fun comes from pretending to be the crew of the Enterprise/Andromeda/Orville/Whatever with some friends. It's a lot of fun.Ĭaveat, though, it's heavily multiplayer focused. I don't remember a specific captain role, but we always had someone play captain anyway and usually just have them the comms station since that station didn't have much to do otherwise.

Or maybe that was the science officer, who also handles scanners, it's been years since I played. Different players take different roles: the comms officer who controls the radio and jammers, the pilot, the engineer who controls power distribution and repairs, the weapons officer who shoots all the things and I think also controls the shields.

Games I’ve tried include FTL (very good), Dreadnaught (not enough detailed management), Elite Dangerous (pilot, not captain), Cosmoteer (great detail in building and how the ship functions, but you feel like a pilot, not a captain), Everspace (pilot, not captain), BSG Deadlock (not granular enough management), shortest trip to earth (close, but just has annoying mechanics), Starsector (great game, but you're a pilot not a captain, and can't really manage your ship much during combat)Īrtemis: Spaceship Bridge Simulator is a ship-vs-ship focused game that Polaris reminded me of when I saw it. I want to feel more like the commander of the ship, not the pilot/gunner. FTL is probably the closest I can think of, but I’d prefer something even more granular. Preferably just single player, but I’m open minded. I’d also like to have a lot of customization of the ship, and building it piece by piece would be great. I want to manage things like power, shields, heat, repairs, etc, mostly just combat stuff, not so much crew mood or politics. I don’t want a fighter, or anything small and fast enough to effectively dodge incoming fire. I’m looking for a game where I manage a single, large spaceship, think Homeworld battlecruiser size.
